Glenn Goldberg.
Glenn Goldberg is a consultant with a twenty-two year history in the electronics, software, and, communications industries. As a search consultant, Glenn brings a unique background with hands-on personal experience in a broad range of roles including engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and sales. Since 1992, he has been working with founders of venture funded start-up companies on the critical task of building initial teams. Prior to the Inventures Group Glenn served as the Executive Search Partner at Crosspoint Ventures, one of the industries top returning early stage Venture Capital firms. In this capacity, he employs his extensive network of senior managers and entrepreneurs to recruit CEO and key executive team members to Crosspoint’s portfolio investments over a 2 year period. Prior to joining Crosspoint, Glenn worked with a number of top tier VCs in a broad range of executive search assignments. Projects include work with TransIlluminant, iBeam Communications, RemarQ Communities, Bridgespan, Alphablox, Com2l Corporation, Netscape Communications, Collabra Software, Remedy Software, Centillion Networks, Polycom, JetStream, and Visioneer. Glenn also completed an 18-month assignment with @Home Networks serving as Director of Staffing starting shortly after the initial capitalization. Glenn started his career as an R & D engineer working for Hewlett Packard including a year of expatriate assignments implementing his designs at off-shore manufacturing facilities in Singapore and Brazil. His first management assignment brought him to Silicon Valley, managing manufacturing engineering for start-up company Fortune Systems. In 1984, he was hired by British networking company BICC Data Networks to establish US operations here in California with responsibility for manufacturing and sales of the world’s first IEEE 802.3 compliant Ethernet components. With no formal sales training, Glenn quickly established OEM relationships with Bridge Communications, 3Com Corporation, Xerox, and Excelan. In 1986, he was recruited by 3Com to manage implementation of “Ethernet over twisted pair” which evolved into the now ubiquitous 10BaseT LAN marketplace. Later assignments included OEM Sales, Regional Sales Manager, Director of Sales Operations, and an interim assignment as General Manager of 3Com Canada. In 1989, Glenn was recruited to start the sales effort at Clarity Software, a developer of horizontal applications for the Unix Workstation market. After extensive delays in product shipment, the sales team was let go providing Glenn with some invaluable lessons in how start-up companies can go wrong. Starting in 1992, Glenn spent 3 years managing the west coast office of a search firm that, under his direction, focused on start-up networking companies. In 1995 he left the firm to pursue independent consulting. Glenn holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a BA in Economics from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Glenn lives in Los Altos, California with his wife and two girls. (Glenn has a marvelous sense of humor: read his "unofficial" bio!) |
